美国留学化学工程专业解析

专业概述
　化学工程（chemical engineering），简称化工，是研究化学工业以及其他工业（如石油炼制工业、冶金工业、食品工业、印染工业等）生产过程中的共同规律，并应用这些规律来认识、解决生产中的工程问题的工程技术学科。它主要研究大规模改变物料中的化学组成及其机械和物理性质。简单地定义化学工程的本质，它是以数学及少量的物理观念为基础应用于化学工业上，从而为生产各式化学品或物料的工厂提供一个最节省成本的反应流程设计方式。化学工程是传统工业界的称法，宾夕法尼亚大学提出一个叫崭新的观点，它不将其称作“化学工程”，而称作“工程化学”；传统化学工程的意义是在化学工业中的工程应用，而工程化学的观点是把工程技术应用在化学工业上，这是一个反面思考，同时也是一个新观点，宾夕法尼亚大学提出的观点或许可以为化学工程提供一个工程上的新契机。
　化学工程的理论基础主要是化学、物理学和数学。包括上述各学科的分支，如：热力学，流体力学和化学动力学。化学工程的研究领域最初只是化工单元操作，后来又发展出一些新的分支：化工热力学；反应工程学，又称化工动力学；输送现象（为化工学科当中"单元操作"的理论基础）。在化学工程中经常会用到下面这些概念：质量结算；能量结算；平衡关系；过程速率等。化学工程领域的分支庞大，因应现代工业发展的需要，以化工的知识背景为基础，可应用在各类化学相关领域的研究及实务上的操作，例如半导体工业。
